The closure of the website rests entirely on my shoulders. I single handedly shut down this community. It was nobody's decision or fault; everything rests on me. Just as lumage said, I'm extremely sorry.
Edit: I didn't listen to the community. People were telling me they didn't want it shut down, but I acted in my own interests. In this instance, I have to be selfish: I can no longer take care of SmileBASIC Source. Again, I'm very sorry.
OK, I have a serious question. Is it better to leave a community and let it wither away because you didn't pass down the reigns, or is it better to simply end it and have people go somewhere else? I thought the latter was less mean.
Congratulations on shutting down an entire fucking community and probably ruining a person's life ArcPh1r3 (Stupid ass name with a stupid ass person attached to it). I was genuinelly looking forward to this, a website built from scratch by passionate people for the sake of learning programming, and in your own selfish delusion you made it all go away. I have literally never cared less for another human being in my entire life.
Whatever obviously fucked up life issues brought you to this, fix them. And never come back here ever again you fucking moron.
I... I am OK losing face and looking like an idiot if it means making the community happy.
What does the community want? I don't want to even visit SmileBASIC Source anymore, and I'm not giving "root" access to anyone (so nobody can make changes). Yes, I'm selfish with my control of the webserver. If I reopen the site, it will probably stay as-is. This also means that I'm not going to manage user bans; you'll just have to deal with people. I'm not promoting anyone to a high enough rank to make others moderators, so the current mods (lumage, toodles, and kirby) are going to be it. If something shuts down I'll obviously turn it back on, but I don't want to be invested in SBS.
Or I can leave it off and you can find a better place that won't have insane people like me in it; a place where there's real moderation and people can lay down the rules.
Programgamer, it's not his fault. I am an adult and I should be able to handle this stuff. Look at me, getting so worked up over young adults messing with each other. This is my fault, and I'd rather not be in charge if I can't even do this.
Okay, Random, you did nothing wrong, and neither did lumage. This is all beyond the scope of your control, and I am sick of hearing you appologize for it. It is simply not your fault. You were 100% right to shut down the website considering the circumstances. Every little ounce of responsibility falls back onto the piece of shit who leaked passwords and has been a troll for the last years or so. Also, you did a damn good job of moderating because I never saw a glimpse of what he did during my entire time with the community. Kuddos to you.
You say I did nothing wrong but the problem is that I didn't do anything.
You misunderstand. The user made a mistake and leaked their own password. Then another user made a mistake passing it into the wrong hands. It really isn't this one person's fault that everything happened, as easy as it would be to say this. I'll stop talking. This is not a thing I'm good at.
I agree with lumage; it's not as simple as "arcphire did everything". A user did indeed leak their password, and it eventually reached the people who would take it too far.
eidt: His name has been ArcPhire on this website the whole time. He was banned here and there, but never for an extended period of time, because... well, I don't want to say any more mean things, so... yeah.
What else happened? A simple password leak shouldn't lead to all this drama. SmileBASIC Source is an isolated site, a password leak should only affect it. Was it the same password as other accounts of his? In that case someone had to verify that, am I right? And then post all of it online?
The fact that you're still here talking about this is either a sign that you regret what you've done, or that you're going all the way to piss all of us off to the absolute maximum. Guess which lead I'll follow?
So where do I go to now? It was the idea that I could share my hobby with others that made this worthwhile to me. I really don't actually know anybody who plays either SmileBasic or PTC, and I was just getting used to some of the names I have seen around here and SBS.
I... I just don't know what to do, Brilliance. I feel awful that I shut down the community, but I know that if I bring it back we'll just have the same problems. Twin I'm sorry but I don't believe in your regret. You did this the last few times and I was fool enough to believe you, and now you're going for bigger and grander schemes, it seems. I don't care about looking like a fool, so I don't mind going back on my word of "I don't want to bring back the website". However, this isn't just simple trolling; this was a severe intrusion of privacy and as the website owner, I could be involved in a criminal investigation if the parents want to launch one. If things like this continue, I could get involved in even more stuff, particularly if someone is pushed to suicide (which is, horribly, a real possibility). I... I cannot be responsible for the death of someone because I couldn't keep people in line. I would be destroyed, and I would forever feel guilty for destroying the lives of the victim's family.
Do you see why I don't want to run this website? Are my reasons justified?
I keep getting people asking me why it was taken down and whether or not it'll come back. I... I don't know. lumage brought up the good point bringing it back but disabling the chat until we figure out what to do. I guess this will have to be the solution... shutting down the website is going overboard. The website isn't mine to do with as I please; it now has a community behind it, and they don't deserve having things taken away from them.
MEGAMON accidentally leaked his password and Sparky shared it with ArcPh1r3. ArcPh1r3 used the password on other accounts chained to MEGAMON's to discover a variety of information about him. He shared the information with Sparky and Hansausage. Hansausage leaked the information in chat and scared MEGAMON. After some events, Randomouscrap banned Sparky, ArcPh1r3, and Hansausage for about a month. The next day ArcPh1r3 used an alt and continued to instigate trouble I guess. Randomouscrap was fed up with his persistance and closed the site. Due to many users upset by that decision who contacted Randomouscrap, Randomouscrap decided to put the site back up. However, using Lumage's idea I believe, he left chat disabled.
