MapIT background writing program

Instructions[]

MapIT is a background editor that uses GRP file format. Eight maps can be stored in one GRP file. This includes upper, lower, and trigger maps. Trigger maps are color tile maps that can be read in your program for events that can happen. Events can be sounds, triggering monsters to attack, traps to set, etc.

Maps must be stored before they can be saved. Storing maps is done by entering the maps screen through the menu and exiting that screen. On the map screen a blue line indicates the slot to upload or download. Press A to upload the background on the lower screen to the map on the upper screen. Press B to download the map on the upper screen to the background on the bottom screen. CAUTION: Make sure not to overwrite your backgrounds. Press START to exit the map screen.

Backgrounds are saved in a two color number file formats. This is because the background tiles can have a number larger than 255. The upper number is stored in the first color pixel and the lower number is stored in the second color pixel. Appended to the number in the hundred place is the horizontal and vertical rotation of the background tile. Make sure to remove this number prior to combining the upper and lower number back together.
